NFL teams and players this 2009 NFL season

March 26, 2009

The NFL football betting lines are going to be hot when August starts to approach as everybody is waiting to see what the first results of teams like the Steelers and the Patriots are going to be.

Will Tom Brady be back? Will the Steelers continue as they finished last NFL Season?

For the sports betting community, these are important things to consider, even more for those that are already calling their bookie and placing future wagers on these or similar topics related to NFL.

This is a good time to start measuring teams for sports betting purposes. Check on their conditions and their performance from last year; also check on the status of every single player (when possible) as well as the presence of a key player on the field or out of it can balance wagering odds in different directions. The more you know about each one of them (including personal life matters), the more chances you will have to win a determined bet. This is a lot of information to be handled in a short period of time, so start early to get the best possibilities of winning big when the 2009 NFL season begins.

In order to gather information, the most valuable resource that you have at hand is the Internet. There are existing communities dedicated to help you measure your sports betting knowledge, therefore allowing you to take the best pieces of information.

Good sports betting understanding is what grants a bookie the ability to continue to run his business. This is the key to getting the best results when the NFL Season comes.

PPH shops, the solution for the non millionaire bookie

March 25, 2009

Most bookmakers are people that have tried to be successful individuals most of their lives and that is probably what has pushed each one of them to pursue a professional career in sports betting.

These bookies have spent countless hours reading about NFL Sports, trying wager combinations, measuring possible financial outcomes, and basically doing everything in their hands to have an edge over other bookmaking agents.

Every single bookie has probably started as a regular player, some already pursuing a bookmaking career, some just trying to make extra money, but all compromised with goal achievements in what it concerns to be among the top sports betting knowledgeable people out there.

The bookies that have hit it big in the gambling world now have their own sportsbooks and offshore call centers, and have accumulated a significant amount of money (in the millions) during the course of their career as bookmakers.

But that is just a percentage of the total number of bookies out there. There is another percentage of those who also run their own sports betting operations in a smaller scale, and the number of clients per bookmaking agent can vary considerably, as we can find a bookie with 20 clients and then another one with 200.

These bookmakers, the ones that aren’t making millions of dollars a year but are making a decent amount of money are the ones that have started using pay per head offshore call center services, which are companies dedicated to facilitate the lives of bookmakers and their clients by providing sports betting support, granting the possibility of increasing their number of clients,

These PPH shops charge a fee for every client the bookie has, and so far, they have proven to be quite effective as bookies are using them more and more every day.

Using pay per head services is a great business investment for bookmakers, as it allows them to count with the same sportsbook management tools which were exclusive to the millionaire bookmaker in the past, so it is a fact that the growth of PPH shops over the internet is surely to grow within the next few years as consequence of the increasing demand.

Who’s Kurt Warner?

February 5, 2009

Since he was one of the two starting quarterbacks at Super Bowl 2009, it is time to get to know more about Kurt Warner, the Cardinals’ main man.

Warner was first part of an NFL team when he was signed by the Packers in 94’ but he never got to play a regular season with them. The following year he moved to the Iowa Barnstormers and played Arena football with them from 95’ to 97’, and then he had the chance of becoming a part of the Amsterdam Admirals, one of the American football teams in NFL Europa.

The good times would begin for Warner when he started playing for the Rams in 98’ as a backup quarterback for Trent Green, but in 99’ when Green got injured, Kurt Warner took over him and, with the help of players like Marshall Faulk, Ricky Proehl and Isaac Bruce, he delivered one of the best seasons for a quarterback in the history of the NFL, finishing with forty one touchdown passes and throwing for a total of 4,353 yards.

After that, Kurt Warner led the Rams to a 23-16 St. Louis victory over the Titans in Super Bowl XXXIV. Warner received the MVP honors on such game.

After a few more seasons with the Rams, Warner went on to play for the Giants for a single season (04/05). He won five of his first seven games with New York, but after some losses, the job of main quarterback for the Giants was given to the young Eli Manning.

In 05’ Warner started his tenure with the Cardinals, signing a one-year contract for 4 million dollars, which was raised to a 3-year deal for $18 millions in 06’. He had been the starting quarterback for the Cardinals since then, and, after leading Arizona to the Super Bowl this year, he’s sure to renew his contract with the Cardinals this year.

The Lions, at least they have loyal fans

February 4, 2009

Is awful when a team goes through a series of continuous losses, and for a good proof, we can ask the Detroit Lions, the worst team in NFL history.

That’s right, as by ending 0-16, the Lions came up with the worst possible result in a regular NFL season. No other team had done so badly before.

I just cannot imagine what was going through the minds of those players when they were 0-10, man! That was probably devastating, and then, picture them going to the field, with no motivation whatsoever and losing other 6 straight matches… I bet all three, the management staff, the coaching staff and the players, filled the pockets of drugstore owners after buying all possible anti-depressive medication available.

Now, that is on the team side, but what about the fans? Well, you can picture the depression kind-of-feeling all over Detroit when the season was over. Great, just one more ingredient to the sad moods product of an economy in bad shape! Or at least that is for most people, except for those die-hard fans of the Lions, whom don’t care if their team is qualified as the worst team in NFL history. The hardcore fans are the ones that are always there to bring a feeling of encouragement to the conflicted minds of the team’s players. Want a proof? I’ll give you one: recently, I saw on the news, a fan of the Lions who tattooed the symbol of the Lions and the phrase ‘0-16, Detroit Lions, 08/09 season’. Now, tell me if that is not a for-life fan right there or not.

Yes my friends, the Lions are still trying to recover from such tempestuous regular season record, but have no doubts that they will, at least, win a single match next year.

The spoiled Favre

February 3, 2009

There are some discussions flowing over the internet about Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre and how Favre does not want to attend to the telephone when contacted by Rodgers. Come on! In what is Brett Favre turning?

Now the veteran NFL quarterback is refusing to speak with a kid who took his position as the starting quarterback of the Packers and who has being carefully observed because of replacing a future hall of famer.

Well, it is the off season for the Jets and Favre is not only turning uneducated but is also in the middle of the same old boring question: will he be back for next NFL season? You know what? Most people is tired of his games and certainly there are some important football critics who doesn’t care anymore, if he plays or not is fine with them.

I guess this surely is not the way in which Brett Favre wants to be perceived, but there are enough reasons to stop caring about his retirement plans, which date is a total mystery, even for the player himself.

That is why the Packers allowed him to sign with another team, as they trusted Aaron Rodgers to be the head of the team and told Favre that if he stayed, he would stay as the second-string quarterback for the Packers, but Favre’s huge ego didn’t allowed that to happen, and since then, he is probably not very pleased with the idea of being a close friend to Rodgers.

And who can blame him. He carved his own hole, and now continues to dig-in deeper with his wrongdoing against the young Packers quarterback.

Favre, who could finish his career with his life-time team, the Packers, and with a better image, maybe a championship ring and the appreciation of Green bay fans and NFL fans alike, is going to finish as the spoiled man whose team got tired of his attitude and said goodbye to him and whose fans are no more. Sure, he still has all of his records, but he surely doesn’t have the respect.

An insight on Patriots fans

January 26, 2009

The Patriots weren’t bad at all this NFL season and finished with an11-5 record. They were without their team emblem: Tom Brady, and were guided by Matt Cassel, a quarterback who didn’t had the experience of Brady, but that quickly showed why he was the man chosen to replace the 31 year-old injured starting QB.

But in despite of doing great for the past decade or so, fans of New England Patriots have shown that they are there for the team only in good times. Proof of that are the Patriots from the early 90’s, when the team played in front of 1 of the 4 smallest crowds in the NFL at that time. This happened because of the bad shape the Patriots were showing at the time.

There is also the departure of two previous Boston franchises to other cities, as the Redskins moved to Washington DC, their current home, and the Yanks (now the Colts) find a new crowd of fans in Indianapolis. At this point, the Patriots management staff was also analyzing the chance of moving the team to St. Louis, but the arrival of Bill Parcells is the only factors which prevented that from happening.

During the 2000’s decade, the Patriots have shown to be a better team, and so fans are also more attached to the team, with some people still believing that New England is still the best team in the NFL and Bill Belichick the best coach.

If you want find the information above interesting, you might want to check of the newest book by sports writer Ken Knight called New England: Bandwagon Nation, where these and other relevant subjects regarding the Patriots are touched.

Halftime Betting

January 20, 2009

Halftime betting is a sports betting tendency liked by many wagering fans. Just like the name says, it’s a bet made at halftime of a sports event. It’s based on the outcome of the second half of the game and, of course, a great entertainment while you’re waiting for the game to resume.

What makes halftime betting so interesting for many sports gamblers is the feeling of “safety” people have when they already know how the game looks. They already saw the players’ performance so far, know if their team has taken advantage or is losing the match, and all this looks less risky than placing bets on a game when it hasn’t started yet. Of course it will look less adrenaline-shocking too for many all-time sports betting fans, but it’s a good way for a rookie to start in the sports gambling and online betting world.

Betting during halftime is very easy: since a lot of online sportsbooks offer halftime betting lines for pro football and basketball games, you will find halftime betting lines for your favorite games and you will be able to wager online or through the phone. NFL Halftime betting is one of the favorites and there are a lot of opportunities to bet on sports.

The first step for you to place a successful halftime bet is, of course, watching the first half of the NFL game or NBA game. Watch for NFL injuries, starting players, absences, overall performance and the NFL or NBA scores. Although there are some unpredictable results sometimes, you will probably have a good idea of the outcome of that game if you already watched the first half.

You will increase your betting odds by using the halftime betting tool. Remember it will also include overtime. Check carefully the numbers presented to you by the online sportsbook or your local bookie. We’re talking about several games going into halftime almost at the same time, so they have to put the numbers up quickly and you will have to choose from those decisions made in a rush. Check your options before placing a bet… but you have 15 minutes to make a pick!

Last, but not least, follow your favorite team’s sports games before placing that bet. That way, you’ll already know the coaches well enough to get an idea of the adjustments they will make during halftime and how that will affect the team’s performance on the second half, as well as the other team’s. Then you will be ready to place a good halftime bet!

Super Bowl is: Cardinals vs. Steelers

January 19, 2009

Surprisingly, after decades the Arizona Cardinals have shown they can play well and that they are a professional football team for a reason, it might have taken them too long to show us their strength but they finally did by defeating the Eagles 32-25, and will play the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII.

And there is really no certain way to find what exactly they did differently this football season to achieve such a score: more power, good coaches or better rookies? The question remains unanswered. We are all happy with the achievement, that is for sure, yet I wonder if they can really beat a well organized team such as the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It was about time we as NFL fans experience a change during a Super Bowl, the NFL playoffs showed no sign at all that these match could happen given the Cardinals history and now the Arizona Cardinals fans are getting what they waited for so long to have (Any Cardinals’ fans anywhere?).

I for one would like to hear a Cardinals fan speak and show that they were hoping to see the team go and play during the Super Bowl or they were already feeling like their time was over during this Football Season.

As for the Steelers…they already have experience playing a Super Bowl, this will be their sixth appearance during an NFL Championship game and I certainly hope this doesn’t make them feel too confident: the Arizona Cardinals may be the newbies in this NFL Super Bowl but that might make them work even harder, the Steelers will need to remember that and play hard to win. In my opinion this is a game set to break NFL records and might surprise us even more at the end.

Ruutu’s suspended for pulling a Mike Tyson

January 9, 2009

Jarkko ruutu, from the Ottawa Senators

Jarkko ruutu, from the Ottawa Senators

Ottawa Senators forward Jarkko Ruutu was recently suspended during an NHL game for getting aggressive and biting hockey player colleague enforcer Andrew Peters from the Buffalo Sabres. Ruutu will remain suspended for a period of two games without pay losing an approximate of $37000.

Ruutu has a 3 year contract with the Ottawa Senators and his two brothers are also related to the NHL. Last year he was also suspended for two games for elbowing Montreal Canadiens’ player Maxim Lapierre in the head. Although hockey and the NHL itself are known for violence, the behavior of the Senators player has become an issue that is going out of hand. Ruutu is in fact denying biting the Sabres player even though Ruutu’s bite ripped Peters’ glove off, broke the skin and drew blood on the Sabres player’s right thumb.

In 2007, Jarkko Ruutu was also involved in another NHL altercation, but as a victim of Chris Simon of the New York Islanders: Simon stomped on the leg of Ruutu in December, 2007, when Ruutu was playing for Pittsburgh; in this case, Simon was suspended for a total of 30 games.

The Finish hockey player claims that Peters actually stuck his fit into his mouth himself, denying the bite. In the case of Peters, he was penalized for sparking the skirmish. So far there have been no official comments from the NHL coaches at all.

Drugs at the NFL, a habit, a problem

December 8, 2008

First things first, let’s be honest: Do you really believe that in the average linebacker weights 265 pounds and can still run 40 yards in 4.4 seconds? Could it really be possible that those offensive linemen are bulking up to 335 pounds on good diet and weight lifting? It all sounds extremely suspicious to me. Reading another article on drug problems with the NFL players, I noticed how the NFL does brag about its drug-testing program and do catch a few players here and there, and claims that the majority of the players are clean. It may be true, but how are they getting bigger and bigger before our eyes and perform so well even carrying those heavy bodies around?

It was incredibly sad when court and medical records proved that members of the Carolina Panthers were involved in a long-term, unrepentant steroid use including terrible side effects. Let’s remember that this NFL team went all the way to the 2004 Super Bowl. The use of banned drugs is so common in the NFL that it cannot be called a problem any longer, but sadly, a habit, so bad that, for instance, players such as Shawne Merriman of the San Diego Chargers and Rodney Harrison of the Patriots, who were previously suspended for steroids, were allowed to be voted into the Pro Bowl later on. Football players are definitely getting it easy regarding their drug abuse, while baseball players (Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds, etc) are no longer welcome into the MLB teams. Is the NFL not taking this issue as serious as they should?

It was surprising to see that in 2007, NFL prospects Calvin Johnson, Gaines Adams and Amobi Okoye admitted to be marijuana users during interviews with teams. Is the National Football League really that careless about drug abuse among its players? Do they really not care about the NFL name, the well being of the players, which are definitely roll models for our kids?
